Two Oldsmobiles finished the first transcontinental race from New York to Portland, Oregon, in 45 days.

On May 8, 1905, Oldsmobile raced a pair of Curved Dashes cross country from New York to Portland, Oregon, to attend the Good Roads Convention being held on June 20. The company promised $1,000 to the winner of the two-car race. Dwight Huss and Milford Wigle won the contest in "Old Scout", making the trip in 45 days. Percy Megargel and Barton Stanchfield arrived in "Old Steady" several days later. Their conclusion? Rural roads needed vast improvement. source: 1
