The Alero's 25hz body structure is comparable to some of Europe's finest luxury cars.
(GL and GLS) Outside rearview mirrors are adjustable by the driver.
A 15" wheel with a bolt-on cover is standard on the GX. GL1 comes standard with the 15" aluminum wheel (optional on GX as part of the Sport Package), while GL2 comes standard with 16" aluminum wheel. The GLS features a brightly polished 16" aluminum wheel.
Both the Alero coupe and sedan offer two buckets up front and spacious 3-across seating in back to ensure room and comfort for everyone to enjoy.
Alero's bucket seats were specially designed and tuned as part of the car's suspension system to increase comfort, especially over long distances. Manual and available power controls help ensure that every Alero driver can find the perfect seating position.
Soft, grained surfaces and premium materials, such as thick, rich seat fabric and a padded instrument panel are used throughout the Alero's interior to ensure that the driver and passengers will ride with style and comfort.
Easy-to-reach controls are at your fingertips, and the neatly organized instruments are framed within the artful curves of the dash. And all functions for the available cruise control are mounted right on the wheel.
Carry long cargo without losing the entire rear seating area, thanks to the 70/30 split-folding rear seat.
Alero has plenty of cargo space with 14.6 cubic feet of trunk space and low liftover height that makes loading easy.
Alero's Premium Sound system (available in GLS, GL1 and GL2) features a potent 200 Watts of clean power and eight speakers to give you excellent sound quality.
A place for everything: change, maps, cassettes or CD's. You name it and there's a place to put it in Alero's well thought-out interior.

Alero has a long 107" wheelbase that provides plenty of room for 5 passengers -- 2 in the front and 3 in the rear.
Air conditioning system is standard. Solar-coated, tinted glass reduces heat load to make the interior more comfortable. Positive shut-off vents in the dash help keep occupants comfortable. The heating system has rear-seat heat ducts for faster warm-up in the rear-seat area.
The steering wheel tilts up and out of the way for easy entry/exit. The tilt feature also allows the driver to position the wheel for optimal comfort and control.

High quality, durable cloth (GX, GL1 and GL2) or leather trim (GLS) is used throughout the Alero. Cut-pile carpeting is standard. Front and rear carpeted floor mats are standard (GL2 and GLS) to protect the carpeting. The trunk is fully trimmed.

The Sedan's front shoulder belts are height adjustable to fit almost every person precisely. Alero is indeed engineered for comfort.

Ergonomic placement of all driver controls, including the sound system and the heating/air conditioning controls. Even the ignition is mounted on the dash for easy reach.
No matter which Alero suits you, you're guaranteed high-quality sound. A CD player is now standard on all trim levels. Optional on the GL and GLS models are a CD and cassette player.

Outrun the routine with either of two refined and Responsive Engines: a 2.2-liter DOHC 4-cylinder with 140 hp and a broad torque curve (standard on GX and GL1), or the 3.4-liter V6 with a full 170 hp and 200 lb-ft of torque (standard on GLS and GL2, available on GL1).

Get Into Gear. Shift for yourself with the available 5-speed manual transmission (available on GX ). Or leave it to the slick, computer-controlled 4-speed automatic.

Each wheel responds independently to uneven road surfaces. This provides a smoother and more controlled ride.

Low profile P215/60R15 Radial Touring tires (GX and GL1) and P225/50R16 Goodyear Eagle LS Radial Touring tires (GLS) help provide lots of grip. P225/50R16 Goodyear Eagle RS-A Performance Radials (GL2, opt. GLS) help provide even more grip.
The Alero's engine cradle is constructed of hydro-formed steel. This manufacturing method provides enhanced strength and precision, ensuring that you have fewer distracting vibrations and more fun to drive. Hydraulic engine mounts help to further smooth out distracting vibrations.

The Passlock theft-deterrent system disables fuel to the engine if the correct key isn't inserted, or if the ignition lock cylinder is tampered with.
If you leave inside lamps on, Alero preserves your battery with automatic shut-off of interior and trunk lamps after 20 minutes.
Standard automatic power door locks are automatic and programmable to meet your security needs.
Lockout protection provides an audible reminder and disables the power door locks if the key is still in the ignition, protecting against locking the keys in the car. Last door closed locking waits 7 seconds after the last door has been closed before locking the car.

(GL and GLS) The remote keyless entry system opens the doors, activates the interior lights and can open the trunk from up to 30 feet away. It includes a panic button that flashes the lights and sounds the horn in case the need should ever arise. A special 'rolling code' technology makes it virtually impossible to 'steal' the code.
An interior hood release helps assure you that the hood stays latched when you're not around. Instrument panel indicator lamps and chimes for safety belts, headlamps, turn signal, key-in ignition, parking brake and low fuel help address maintenance and repair needs early, before they grow into bigger problems.
This feature turns on the interior lights whenever entering or exiting the Alero.

Alero is engineered with a strong body structure for occupant protection. Front and rear crush zones absorb crash energy to help maintain the integrity of the occupant compartment.
Steel side door beams and special interior padding help to protect Alero occupants in the event of a side impact.
Alero has driver and front-passenger air bags* that supplement safety belts to help protect occupants in the event of a frontal collision.
The Alero sedan's front safety belts feature an adjustable guide loop. Proper adjustment helps improve comfort of the shoulder belt.
Three anchors are mounted on the rear package shelf in the back seat for securing child safety seats.
Alero has a number of energy-absorbing interior components, including the steering column, instrument panel and door trim to help reduce the risk of injury to occupants in a crash. Alero's windshield glass is laminated to reduce the risk of injury and Alero's side glass is tempered to reduce the risk of serious injuries from broken glass.
When you need to avoid a collision, Alero's ABS, standard on the GL2 and GLS, help you stop and maintain steering control during hard braking on most slippery surfaces.
Front wheel drive gives you better traction under most conditions. All-speed Traction Control is standard on GL2 and GLS models, helping control and minimize wheelspin anytime you need to accelerate - from a stop or at speed. Traction control is optional on GX and GL1 models, and is packaged together with ABS brakes.
Automatic Lamp Control
Your headlamps and other exterior lamps will come on automatically, whenever and wherever light is limited. You may never need to touch the lamp switch again. .

The front lamps are automatically illuminated at a low level during daylight hours to help make the car more visible to other drivers. Automatic lamp control turns the front headlamps and rear tail lamps on when encountering low light levels.

Large Rear Tail Lamps
Generously sized tail lamps, which incorporate a clear lens, are designed to make it easier for other drivers to see Alero from behind, to help avoid rear-end collisions.

Automatically shuts-off interior and trunk lamps after 20 minutes to prevent accidental discharge of the battery.
A number of warning chimes provides feedback to alert the driver of potential problems before they become serious. *Always use safety belts and proper child restraints even with airbags. Children are safer when properly secured in a rear seat. See your owner's manual for more safety information.

Alero's body panels are constructed of rust-resistant, two-sided galvanized steel. We're so confident that it will resist rust, we warrant the car for up to 6 years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first. Alero's steel body panels go through a special bake-hardening process to make them stronger than conventional steel body panels. This helps the Alero reduce the risk of those annoying parking-lot dents and dings.
Alero's front and rear bumpers resist impacts up to 5 mph.
Separate AM and FM antennas integrated into the rear glass eliminate repairs required for traditional mast antennas.
Solar-Coated, tinted glass helps protect the interior from the fading effects of UV rays, while reducing interior heat load.
